Have you ever been to a place where the food and the experience have been so good that you even after two years still remember it and you wish you could go back and experience it once more? Well, I have one such place. And I did plan to go back there last year with my beautiful woman but for reasons unknown, it did not happen.
So, to put salt in my wounds, I have decided to write about it. My first experience at this exceptional place called Two Rivers aka Divas Upes.
How it all started. Back in my hometown Jelgava we have this place called “Noliktava Nr. 2” where one can buy good wine, eat good food, and have an overall nice evening with nice company in a cozy atmosphere. On one such evening we were sitting, drinking, and chatting and the owner mentioned that he recently was in a place called “Divas Upes” where, among other things, you can have the most amazing steak. The owner of Divas Upes really knows how to cook a proper steak. It is so good that even a vegan becomes a meat-eater for a day.
Enough said.
We booked a room with dinner. Also back then my love had not previously eaten steak, it would be her first time. Luckily for me, I could not have picked a better place to experience a first steak.
You can easily find this place on a map. So the drive there was easy. We parked our car. We went inside. And then the experience begins. This whole place looks like a manor house (a restored 18th-century building), it is so rustic that we immediately fell in love with the place. We got our room. We chose a room with a bathtub and a large bed and with a small French-style balcony. At the reception, the owner said that we can come down for dinner after roughly an hour.
One hour later we are down. We are taken to a private table and we are asked what is going to be our drink of choice. We are told that this place is an importer of a wine label called “Leone de Castris“, and since both of us are passionate red wine lovers then a red wine it is. I can not recall the taste of it, but I promise – it was exceptional.
And after a couple of minutes, the main event arrived. A beautiful steak. Dry aged meat from an old milk cow prepared to perfection. Also, a thing to note, here you don’t ask for the temperature. The owner prepares the meat as he wants it. So you can either have it like that or raw. Your choice. The sides are a couple of nice grilled vegetables and a salad. Perfect.
It was an absolute foodgasm. The Bentley of steaks. One could not ask for a better piece of meat. And one could not ask for a better first experience eating steak. I was happy. And my beautiful woman was also happy. And even now writing these lines I feel happy and sad at the same time. Why sad, you ask? Partly because I feel hungry and partly because I want to experience this adventure once more.
I will do it. Currently, I don’t know when, but it will happen again.
Also, the next morning we had our breakfast and went for a walk to see what else this place has to offer. I will only say if you like water, then this is a place to be as well. Two Rivers after all.
It has been more than two years since our first visit. But the memories are strong and vivid as if we were there only last month. Yes, I don’t recall the taste of the wine, but please don’t spoil the moment and the memory.
