A Relationship With Your First Car Is Special

olaaf, 10/11/202224/07/2023

My very first car was an Audi A3 (registration number: JP 2837). And here is our story.

I don’t have one of those stories where a dad took his son to a garage and showed him how to fix a car. I also did not get my driver’s license at the moment when I turned 18 years old as some of my then classmates and friends did. No. I got my license a bit later and it took me three tries to get it.

And even after I got my driver’s license I did not get a car of my own. I could have taken my parent’s car, but after a few drives, I stopped taking it. The reason is more or less straightforward – what is yours is yours, it feels different and the driving is much more comfortable.

So fast forward a few years and also because I fell in love with my beautiful woman, and we wanted to drive to the sea and many other places, the issue of my own car came up again. Luckily I was fortunate enough and I got my mother’s old car. An Audi A3, color – black, manufacturing year – 2001. I was the owner of that said car when it turned 20 years old. The kilometrage when I sold it read – 306271 km.

Technically this car was not anything interesting – a 1.8L diesel engine, and a decent heart that has been changed and repaired to the point that only rust could have broken it. And I must say and emphasize that I was a really good owner. Unless you buy a completely new car from the shop you have to pass a technical inspection every year so you are able to use your car on the road will all other vehicles. Even though I had to undergo the inspection only two times, I managed to pass it the first time on both occasions. Considering the quality of roads in Latvia and the fact that my car was not in a garage but outside of my home, it is quite an accomplishment in my opinion.

I love that car.

But it is expensive to own a car.

Will give you the numbers for context:

I owned it from 03/07/2020 until 21/09/2022

It was sold for 1200 EUR

Fuel costs: approx. 1600 EUR

Repairs: approx. 1643.19 EUR

Tax: 164.04 EUR

Insurance: 285.80 EUR

Registration: 61.98 EUR

Technical inspection: 62.66 EUR

Parking tickets: 1 x 30.00 EUR

Total: 3847.67 EUR

Net: -2647.67 EUR

So in the end was it worth it and will I get another car at some point? YES.

Will it be an Audi again? Of course. And since Audi is planning on joining Formula 1, I will become an even bigger fan of both the sport and the car manufacturer.

Now I just need to visit the Audi museum in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Below you can see what the car looked like. I must admit that at first, I was not a fan of it, I thought it was a bit too small and not so good-looking. But after a while and some long road trips later, I got to really like this vehicle. When you accelerate in order to overtake, it accelerates and overtakes like a much younger and faster car. It is comfortable, easy to handle and it was my first.

The only issue? I did not have sex in it. So more pressure on my next car.

I hope you are in good hands.

Kind regards,
