Of course, the title of this article does not apply to everything. But I did not want to be rude and say something bad about vegans and their anti-meat crusade. Meat is good. The steak is great. A properly cooked steak is an orgasmic experience. You don’t believe me? Just read my article about Two Rivers aka Divas upes.
But now to the point of this article.
I have not cooked a steak for more than six months. When we lived in Latvia, we used to buy aged steak and cook it at home.

Why is aged steak so good? I asked a good friend. Here is his response:
There are a few reasons why aged steak can be considered delicious. First, the aging process allows enzymes in the meat to break down some of the tougher muscle fibers, which can make the steak more tender. In addition, the aging process allows the flavors of the steak to develop and intensify, which can make it taste more delicious. Finally, the Maillard reaction can occur during the aging process, which is a chemical reaction that occurs between amino acids and sugars when meat is cooked at high temperatures. This reaction results in the development of complex flavors and aromas, which can also contribute to the overall deliciousness of the steak.

Sounds good, right?
The problem now is that I have not yet found a place in Brussels where I can buy an aged steak. I know there are a lot of good meat shops. I have been to them. But they do not offer aged steak. Also. I don’t have the means to cook it. I don’t yet have a grill and/or a skillet for steaks. But that will change. This spring. Maybe sooner.
So, does that mean I have not eaten a single steak this whole time? No. Last year during one of many Christmas diners I had the chance to finally stick my teeth into a delicious steak.

It is “Filet pur façon Rossini”. Namely, steak with fries and foie gras. Delicious.
I asked my friend whether this was truly delicious or if was it just my imagination. He replied:
Foie gras, which is a type of liver pâté made from the livers of ducks or geese, is often considered a delicacy and is often served with steak. Some people may find that the rich, buttery flavor of foie gras pairs well with the savory flavor of steak, while others may not care for the combination. It really comes down to personal preference. If you enjoy the taste of foie gras and are interested in trying it with steak, you may want to give it a try and see if you like the combination.
I like food. And you will hear more of it.
Remember that we have a limited number of meals in this lifetime. Don’t waste those meals eating grass.
Kind regards,
Olaaf
