This is my first SEIKO watch. At least it is the only one I can remember, maybe in some bygone era I might have had something else, but I seriously doubt that. This lovely peace, this solar quartz watch was gifted to me by my parents for my Master’s graduation. A gift marking an accomplishment. It is special, it is a SEIKO, it is mine.

As of this writing, I have had this watch for more than two years, before my ROAMER I wore SEIKO basically every day, I still wear it but only during holidays and weekends. Am I tired of it? Of course not. Do I wear it less because I have a mechanical watch in its place? Yes. As you hopefully know from my previous article on watches, I like to look at a movement, I like to observe how it works, I like to be able to see how every single piece has its purpose and function, and without a single piece, the watch would either stop working or be less precise. Also, mechanical watches are eternal.
Would I wear my SEIKO more often if it had an automatic movement? Probably. SEIKO does not have skeletonized dials, but I would consider wearing it more often if I knew there is a beating heart on my wrist.

ROAMER for my 30th birthday.
SEIKO for my Master’s graduation.
I know I will buy my next watch next year either at the beginning or at the end of summer to mark my first work anniversary. But will I look for something before that? If I notice something at a flea market or there is an offer that is something too good to let go, maybe I will pull the trigger. In the meantime, I will admire and feel proud and happy about my current two-watch collection.
Kind regards,
Olaaf
