A Letter to Maximilian Büsser. Will he or anyone else from MB&F or M.A.D.1 read it? There is always a 50% chance of that happening.
Dear Mr Maximilian Büsser,
I hope my letter finds you well.
I am not a watch journalist who intends to get early access to a watch made by your brand. No. Also, I am currently in no position to buy one of your magnificent MB&F creations. However, I intend to be able to do that in the future. After all my ultimate grale watch is one of your creations. Namely, it is the LM Sequential EVO. I totally agree with all those people who say that this is the ultimate chronograph. If and when I’d get it, then probably no other watch would seem remotely comparable to it. No other chronograph comes close to the LM Sequential EVO, not the Speedmaster, not the Monaco, not the Daytona, not the El Primero. At least that is my humble opinion. And it is an opinion developed by a person who has seen the aforementioned watches only in books apart from the Daytona.
But only recently did I read and learned about the M.A.D.1 Red watch. Yes, I know, it is not a chrono. A creation by you and your team that costs less than 3000.00 EUR? Insane (I know, I know, excluding tax). Also, the engineering side of this watch is impressive. An inverted Miyota movement? Looks and sounds like a mechanical marvel, but then again you developed a watch that resembles a jellyfish so it is not a complete surprise. I have the money to buy it, but it is currently out of stock. I have registered my email to be notified when the next raffle comes. But when will that be? Hopefully by the middle of next year. Or else I might pull the trigger for something else.
The thing that shocked me the most was that this watch which costs 2900.00 EUR is being sold in Chrono24 for 11 000.00 EUR or more (in rare occasions less). Sadly the one watch you gifted to your “friends” is also being sold there. Also, people sell M.A.D.1 Red that has not even been worn. Why do people do that? Like. Really. Why? Probably to get some profit out of a watch that they don’t really like but which they were fortunate enough to be able to buy when the possibility came. And they knew that there will be people interested in it and who would want to own something affordable from the creator of MB&F. It is sad, to be honest. Just sad that people do that. Anyway, who am I to judge?
I have watched the majority of your interviews and clips where you share your story and your passion. My most favourite being this one. I like to listen, in a not-so-creepy way, to how you explain your origin story, like the one where you almost died and after a couple of weeks in the hospital you went to a little watch shop and bought the Ebel chronograph in steel. Or how you explain your collaborations with various brilliant watch specialists to create something unique and special. Perhaps you truly are a brilliant man who is also a brilliant employer. Sadly I am not an engineer specializing in micromechanics.
This letter is not to ask for something. This letter is not to ask for an opportunity to be able to buy the M.A.D.1. Red watch. No. This is just to say that somewhere in Brussels there is this Latvian guy who loves watches, reads a lot of watch books, works hard, and hopes that someday he is going to be able to buy one of your creations.
