Some people like to take notes on their phones or computers, and then there are some who like it the old-fashioned way – on paper with pens or pencils. If you know what MOLESKINE is then probably you fall into the second category. I know I do.
First things first – what is MOLESKINE?
According to the company: “The Moleskine notebook is the heir and successor to the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two centuries: among them Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. Today Moleskine offers an eco-system of objects which inspires imaginations and fuels creative practice, versatile tools for both everyday and extraordinary journeys: notebooks, journals, bags, luggage, apps, writing instruments, and reading accessories that complement each other in form and function, becoming an integral part of our personalities. Moleskine is a platform which celebrates talent, champions originality, and cherishes long-term thinking.”

And this: “The company began life as Modo&Modo, a small Milanese publisher that, in 1997, brought the original notebook back to life and established the Moleskine® trademark. Moleskine Srl was listed on the Italian Stock Exchange in 2013. The brand was acquired and delisted by D’Ieteren at the end of 2016. Today, the Moleskine company has around 400 employees and a vast network of partners.”
I bought my first Moleskine notebook back in 2018 while on an internship at the European Parliament. Today is October 2022 and I still have not made it full of notes/thoughts/goals/budgets/ideas. At first, I chose to write there only extremely personal information, but then I thought it could be a nice place to plan my budget, monitor my expenses and help keep track of my savings.
But then one day I thought to write down my thoughts. And then everything changed. Every time when I feel down or something is bothering me in my professional or personal life, I simply write it down. Or if there is something that I am constantly thinking about – I write that down as well. And it helps. It helps to calm me down, it helps me to disconnect from the thing that is bothering me, and it makes me feel good.
This year my beautiful significant other gifted me a new Moleskine notebook and my very first special pen. I have to admit that in the first couple of days after getting that pen I tried to write in my notebooks only with it and tried not to use any other pen when I decided to write something down in one of my “black books”. But now this phase has gone by. Don’t get me wrong I still love it, I like to touch it, play with it, write with it, but now I try to use it more often. Because I know once you will make something “for only special occasions” then you end up using it very rarely.

Now I know one thing for sure. I definitely want a fountain pen. Will it be from MOLESKINE? Will see. I will keep you posted.
Kind regards,
Olaaf
